Dean Smothers
General Mgr.
Smothers Equipment
Monticello, IA
"I started as a mechanic, became a parts manager, and twenty four years ago became a
general manager at Smothers Equipment inc.
The most enjoyable reward of my job would be the relationships developed over the years
with coworkers, customers, and suppliers. Also, the ability to control the destiny of this
dealership and of my own life.
My first thoughts of being a farm equipment dealer started while still in high school.
During my twenty four years as a dealer, this industry has changed from being a small time
retail outlet to a sophisticated departmentalized business.
As farm equipment and farming become more sophisticated, the opportunities for the staff
of dealerships will be limited only by their preparedness and motivation.
In this day of large corporation down sizing, layoffs, politics, and forced moves, most
equipment dealers are looking for good people to become long time members of their
staff." |
